Physiotherapy BSc(Hons): What our students say
Student profiles
Don't just take our word for it – here's what some of our current and recent students say about what it's like to study at Kingston.
Name: Sarah Henry
Course: Physiotherapy BSc(Hons)
Level: Year 3
"The Faculty of Health and Social Care is a diverse, interesting and thoroughly enjoyable place to study. The Physiotherapy course incorporates a range of learning styles to suit everyone, including the opportunity to study with other healthcare students, such as doctors, nurses and radiographers. There is a big emphasis on practical work, a learning experience I found particularly useful as it is an integral part of physiotherapy.
"One of my favourite parts of the course was the opportunity to do a dissection. I now have a much better knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of the human body than I would have gained from simply reading text books.
"All my clinical placements have been very different and have enabled me to integrate my knowledge of theory into practice at an early stage. They have reinforced the fact that I do want to be a physiotherapist.
"Over the past three years I have had to work hard and the course is tough, but it's definitely worth it in the end. The support network is excellent with all tutors being very approachable. Another support network in place is 'Mums and Dads', so someone in the year above will be there to offer any help that you might require - I am now a proud Granny!
"The School Club at St George's, University of London and the Union at Kingston provide two varied social environments, with activities ranging from club nights to pub quizzes and the legendary St George's discos. There are many different sports clubs and societies so you will most definitely find one that takes your fancy.
"Being elected the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) rep for my year means that I have had many experiences I would never have dreamed of. I have been to Parliament to lobby the health minister, met with other physiotherapy students from all over the country and participated in interesting workshops and conferences."
Name: Janet Banwell
Course: Physiotherapy BSc(Hons)
Level: Year 3
"After having worked for three years in commercial training, I was made redundant, which gave me the opportunity to reassess my career. After much research and exploration of different career pathways, I decided to study physiotherapy because I believed that it suited by personality quite well. I was accepted to the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences here at St George's, University of London.
"I thoroughly enjoy the course. The practical sessions are brilliant as they help to bring the lectures together and are lots of fun. The University has excellent studying facilities and the lecturers are always willing to help students to reach their full potential. But the students work well together, helping each other with practical aspects of the course and various assignments. It is a really friendly environment to be a part of.
"The University has excellent facilities for group sports activities. The Student Union is always organising events, such as brilliant disco nights with all the latest music to groove to. They're a great opportunity to meet other students."
