About this course
Why choose this course?
This course explores fundamental questions of politics: who has power over whom and why, and how it is and should be exercised. It addresses the tension between freedom and equality, the nature of terrorism, the importance and development of human rights, and the various ways in which such issues are debated and resolved in different places and different times. You do not need to have formally studied politics before.
Students who would like to combine politics with international relations should apply for our Politics and International Relations degree. See the course combinations section for more information about the different joint honours options.
What will you study?
You will study key issues in British and European government and politics, the main principles of political theory, and fundamental elements of human rights and international relations. You will also look at national or regional case studies in your second and third years.
