Product Design BSc(Hons): Is this course right for me?

Product Design BSc(Hons) and Product and Furniture Design BA(Hons)

The Product Design BSc(Hons) and Product and Furniture Design BA(Hons) courses share a number of studio-based design modules and as such have a joint design philosophy and understanding of the role design can play in society.

Both courses are concerned not only with how the object looks or appears but also how the object functions and therefore sympathises with the needs of the user. We are jointly concerned with the development and realisation of concepts informed through research and insight gathering as well as user testing and analytical design tools.

In our design courses, we promote design that does not exist in isolation, but is in fact developed and informed through an appreciation and understanding of context. The courses encourage students to contextualise their work not only within the discrete areas of practice but also within brands.

Students are required to think strategically and demonstrate industry awareness with regard to their personal or graduate interests within the international design world. This strategic thinking is intended to underpin not only the focus for the development of individual projects within modules but also the portfolio across all levels.

The courses promote an attitude in which the students are first and foremost young designers and as such they interact and engage with the industry and profession throughout their studies.
