About this course
Why choose this course?
This course will give you a grounding in scientific psychology, as well as experience in the practical application of the discipline. It will also enable you to take the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as conferring eligibility for graduate membership of the Society with the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) – the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist.
Students must graduate from the full-field and the major route with the minimum of second-class honours to qualify for the GBC. This is a standard BPS condition.
You can also choose to study Psychology as a joint honours degree alongside another subject. See the course combinations section for more information.

What will you study?
You will study the history and development of psychological thought, and topics such as the role of genetics in behaviour, how the brain processes information, how people interact, how we learn, how children and adults develop, and the causes and impact of psychological disorder. You will look at the link between physiological systems and behaviour, the relationship between language and thought, and theories of personality. You will also have the chance to study a wide range of specialist areas. In your final year, you will have the opportunity to conduct an independent research project under supervision.
