Real Estate Management with Business Experience BSc(Hons): Course features

What this course offers you

  • This course gives you a detailed knowledge base of property investment and appraisal.
  • This degree carries full accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) – the leading source of land, property, construction and related environmental knowledge – under its university partnership scheme, ensuring that what you learn is relevant to industry.
  • You can gain a head start by doing an internship or consultancy project towards the end of your second year. Alternatively, if you choose to take the four year programme including a sandwich year, in your third year you will undertake a year's work placement, boosting your experience, confidence and employability.
  • Experienced and supportive staff will help you reach your full potential.
  • You have the opportunity to go on an overseas field trip.

Our Business and Professional Experience team provides you with dedicated support and helps you to prepare for the world of work, your internship or the optional sandwich year. This includes assisting you with the application process, including researching and targeting your placement or future employer; writing your CV, cover letters and getting ready for interviews; as well as how to use your placement to benefit your future career. Where possible a work placement is paid.

You are assigned a personal tutor for the duration of your degree, who is advised of the assessments for each module on your course. This enables your tutor to identify and discuss with you areas of strength and weakness in your skills and knowledge set. Your personal tutor remains with you throughout your studies: feedback received in Year 1 will feed forward into subsequent years. This enables your tutor to direct you to appropriate sources of support, guidance and development.

As a real estate student you'll become part of a vibrant and welcoming Kingston Business School. Recently awarded the prestigious international accreditation by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), a hallmark of excellence in business education. This accreditation has only been earned by five per cent of the world's business schools.

The school is a signatory of the United Nation's Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) charter and supporter of the International Ethics Standards Coalition ensuring ethical standards in real estate. This shows our commitment to responsible management, ethics and sustainability, and we embed this in your teaching.

Business Readiness Programme

Alongside your degree we also provide a Business Readiness Programme which will enable you to undertake a placement option with confidence. It prepares you for the real world of work by ensuring when you graduate you have a clear understanding of how you can add value to future employers. You will be taught by a team of experienced professionals.

You will explore topics such as understanding personality traits, developing your individual strengths, resilience, and interpreting and learning from appraisals. You will develop IT, communication and personal branding skills and learn to produce brilliant presentations along the way.

As the course develops you can follow your own interests in more depth through a variety of specialist sessions. Examples current students are taking include a leadership workshop, an entrepreneurship expert panel or ‘a day in the life ...' and ‘careers in...' sessions.
You'll leave having developed the keys skills companies are looking for: building and maintaining a career-enhancing professional network; time and self-management; team working and leadership skills, and professional and business etiquette.

We will also support you in preparing you for your work placement through workshops on:

  • The application process including researching and targeting your placement.
  • Writing your CV and cover letters and getting ready for interviews.
  • How to use your placement to benefit your future career.
  • Managing relationships at work and evaluating your progress.
