About this course
Why choose this course?
If you would like to study a science subject at Kingston University but are not yet ready to join the first year of a BSc(Hons) course, you can include an extra foundation year within your chosen degree. This gives you an alternative entry route if you lack traditional qualifi cations such as A-levels, if you are a mature student, or if you have non-science-based A-levels.
The extra year is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to continue on the degree of your choice. It is taught at Kingston College, where you will benefit from the friendly, informal atmosphere of college life before continuing your study at the University campus.
What will you study?
The course is split into two parts. In the first term all students follow a programme of lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions on the fundamentals of science. This stresses the practical and academic skills as well as the learning skills needed in many science and business subjects. You will also learn useful skills in maths, computing and information technology. In the second and third terms you will undertake a Maths for Science module and be asked to select four additional modules from the following subject areas:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computing
- Economics
- Electronics
- Environmental Science
- Finance
- Media Technology
- Operational Research
- Physics
- Sports Science
