Where this course will take you
Software engineering is one of the most popular professions in IT in terms of the numbers employed (source: prospects.ac.uk). Like systems programmers, software engineers are employed to get the best out of the computer but work at the design stage. They generally work for computer manufacturers or for software houses, designing products such as compilers (which translate programs), operating systems and software that helps the computer operate more efficiently.
What our graduates say
Check out what our graduates have gone on to do and how studying at Kingston helped them achieve their goals.

Former student: Bhavit Shah
Current job: Associate at JP Morgan
Location: London
"After achieving a first class honours degree from Kingston, I joined JP Morgan's graduate programme. As a leading investment bank, JPM makes use of cutting-edge technology and received a best IT employer of the year award in 2006.
"I joined JPM in Bournemouth in an application support role, providing support to critical back-office applications. My degree helped me excel in my first graduate job and I achieved an employee recognition award for my performance.
"I am currently working in London as a trading application analyst, providing support for a front-office trading application used by hundreds of internal and external clients.
"I plan to stay in my current role for a few more months and then would like to move to a business analysis role. I believe that a business analyst with sound technical knowledge can always provide better IT solutions for business. I am currently preparing for FSA exams (securities, derivatives and regulatory) to enhance my business knowledge.
"My education at Kingston University provided a kick-start to develop my career and interpersonal skills. The support and guidance from the University tutors and placement staff filled me with the confidence of knowing I have a great platform to build on."

Careers and recruitment advice
The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing has a specialist Employability Team. It provides friendly and high-quality careers and recruitment guidance, including advice and sessions on job seeking skills such as CV preparation, application forms and interview techniques. Specific advice is also available for international students about the UK job market, employers' expectations and requirements, and how to apply for a post-study two-year work visa.

The team runs employer events throughout the year, including job fairs, key speakers from industry and interviews on campus. These events give you the opportunity to hear from, and network with, employers in an informal setting. For example, here students are practising their interview skills with employers at a 'speed interviewing' event on campus.
