Software Engineering BSc(Hons): What our students say
Student profiles
Don't just take our word for it – here's what some of our current and recent students say about what it's like to study at Kingston.

Name: Bhavit Shah
Course: Software Engineering BSc(Hons)
Route to University: International student
"I am originally from India, which is where I went to school. I wanted to take a software engineering degree because of my keen interest in computers and the latest technology. Software engineering covers many different aspects of IT, ranging from business analysis to system implementation.
"I chose Kingston University because it is highly rated for technology courses and gives undergraduate students the chance to take a work placement during the course.
"The location of the University is ideal and creates a perfect student environment. It's convenient to travel to and from central London, plus there are great bars and restaurants right here in Kingston, many on the banks of the River Thames.
"The University also offers a wide range of facilities, such as sports clubs (I joined the Cricket Club, for example), libraries (with a vast collection of books), an online learning system, support for international students and friendly student accommodation.
"The best part of the Software Engineering course at Kingston was the practical work. Covering practical implementation in workshops alongside theory in lectures made my learning curve steeper. Experienced lecturers provided great support when learning each module in depth.
"I strongly believe in the importance of practically applying the knowledge gained at university, so also took the opportunity to undertake a one-year work placement as part of my degree.
"Kingston University provides a great platform for students to prepare, apply and excel in work placements. This plays a very important role in career development, as some universities do not prepare their students to face the 'real world'."

Name: Jeyaram Deivachandran
Course: Software Engineering BSc(Hons)
Route to University: A-levels
"The course included a year's work placement at Sun Microsystems in Farnborough where I worked as a web technologist and IT support technician. I really enjoyed the placement - it was excellent to get some hands-on experience in the workplace.
"I've come out of university with good grades and the job I wanted [as a software engineer at IT company Accenture]. Things couldn't be better - I'm very happy things worked out the way they did."
