About this course
Why choose this course?
Studying statistics in combination with business provides a good knowledge of how organisations work, along with an understanding of the statistical methods used for business planning and reporting. Roughly a third of the curriculum will focus on business topics, while the remainder of the course explores core themes in statistics, with some computing topics.
The course is designed as a flexible programme of study. You can take an option module from the Kingston Language Scheme and choose to spend the third year of the course on a professional placement.
What will you study?
This course places an emphasis on career skills and progresses from foundation statistics modules in Year 1 to a range of more exploratory subjects in Year 3.
Introductory statistics studies in Year 1 explain the fundamental theories and techniques, from organising, summarising and presenting data to using a sample to gain inferences about the population from which it was taken. Likewise, the business modules aim to provide a firm foundation of knowledge. You will examine the internal workings of organisations and the relationship between their internal and external environments. You can also take a language module.
Year 2 statistics studies widen to cover specific areas of statistical science, while the business modules examine some of the major disciplines within the subject – accounting, marketing and human resources.
Year 3 gives you a wide degree of choice in your studies. You can choose from a range of statistics modules plus business options such as Business to Business Marketing, Financial Resource Management, International Business, Management Accounting, or a project or dissertation.
