What our graduates say
Check out what our graduates have gone on to do and how studying at Kingston helped them achieve their goals.
Name: Lorna Hunter
Graduated: 2005
Current Job: Radiotherapy radiographer, Royal Marsden Hospital
Location: Sutton, Surrey
Having spent eight years in a previous career and finding herself unfulfilled, Lorna decided to retrain in a very different field.
"I had been aware of radiotherapy in cancer treatment for many years, since both my parents had suffered from cancer. However, I was only drawn to radiotherapy as a career after spending four years as a support worker for a charity caring for families with life-threatened or terminally ill children.
"Though an exacting course, where essays often have to be attended to after a day on clinical placement, the therapeutic radiography course at Kingston gave me a good balance of theoretical knowledge and practical training, giving me confidence when applying for my first post.
"I have been working at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton since August, and am proud to be working at a world-renowned centre of excellence while I am still learning and establishing myself as a radiographer in the NHS."
Former student: Margaret
Current job: Therapeutic radiographer
Margaret is nine months into her first job after qualifying, working as a therapeutic radiographer with oncology patients.
"I always wanted to work in a hospital environment and a friend recommended radiography. I went to Kingston straight after completing A-level equivalent examinations. The course was quite demanding, but varied and very interesting. I did find my science background an advantage.
"I am really enjoying my first job, consolidating my training and gaining more confidence. Some of the work is routine, but new scenarios that demand a different approach are always cropping up. In therapeutic radiography you have a lot of patient contact and build up a relationship with the patient over the course of their treatment. It is very satisfying to see that you have made a difference to somebody and that you are helping them to feel a lot better."
