Radiography: Therapeutic Radiography BSc(Hons): What our students say

Student profiles

Don't just take our word for it – here's what some of our current and recent students say about what it's like to study at Kingston.

Name: Christina Gonzalez-Castro
Course:  BSc(Hons) Therapeutic Radiography

Name: Kim
Course: BSc(Hons) Therapeutic Radiography
Level: Year 2

"I came to Kingston directly after my A-levels. I had studied Biology and Physics, which was helpful. However, I do think people's personal qualities are more important than their academic ability as you will be taught about the science.

"I am currently on clinical placement working on a linear accelerator in a team of five people. It is really interesting. You have to be good at listening in this job. People often have other complications and issues that they want to talk to you about. Because you see them every day and follow them through their whole treatment, you get to know the patients really well and build up a rapport with them. It is very satisfying when patients come to you and ask you questions and trust you.

"The job can be quite challenging, especially when you are working with children, but you learn that you can't take it home with you or you wouldn't be able to do it."

"I had always wanted to work in a hospital environment and after some research into NHS careers I discovered radiotherapy.

"I have just completed my last clinical placement and have found the course to be challenging and interesting. It was very demanding and required a definite commitment. Radiotherapy is a technically-focused profession requiring good team skills, excellent inter-professional skills and patient communication.

"Working with patients is a privilege as treatment schedules require daily attendance by the patients. We radiographers therefore have the opportunity to build a good rapport with them. This is especially gratifying when patients let you know that you have made a difference."
