Hello my friend,
I'm fine, thanks for asking. I lived in halls of residence (Seething Wells) during my first year of study. From my experience I didn't find a reason to complain, the rooms were in a good condition (clean, warm, internet access and private shower/toilet).
The shared facilities (the kitchen) had a cleaning rota, which ensured that the kitchen was cleaned on a weekly basis. Also the reception staff were always friendly and approachable, so if you had any questions; from asking directions somewhere to numbers of a taxi company, they were happy to help.
Finally Seething Wells was also good in terms of social networking. I met a lot of new friends both within my flat and the Halls of Residence in general, some of them became my best friends here in the UK.
However some facilities might vary between halls of residence e.g. some have shared bathrooms ,and the kind of flat mates you get will also have a big influence on your first years' experience.
But if you don't bond with your flat mates, there are still other flats and people in your halls of residence with whom you can socialize with.
I hope that helps,
Thomas
