About Sheena

Other information: I came to Kingston after being employed for five years. I am a Kingston University Student Ambassador.

I chose Kingston because... Kingston is the home of the London Graduate School; London's most exciting centre for the critical humanities. I am supervised by leading academics here and have exposure to CRMEP (Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy) which has recently moved to Kingston. It is a strong place for arts and humanities research.

I have got to where I am now.... I studied fashion management and worked for five years in the fashion industry before taking the step to return to studying. Since completing my masters I realised how much I loved researching and didn't look back - a PhD was the next step.

My plans for the future are... to hopefully become a lecturer and published academic.

More about me

Name one thing you couldn't live without at uni

I could not live without studyspace and my diary. I wouldn't have a clue as to what was going on without them.

Who is your hero?

Virginia Woolf, an inspiration for women writers to this day.

Name one thing you looked forward to before joining university?

Ahead of starting uni, I really looked forward to meeting others in my department and working with my supervisors, as well as exploring the library!

My quotes

"Higher education is right for me. I initially studied for a degree to lead to a career but with hindsight I realised this should not be the only factor in choosing your degree you need to have an interest in the subject too. University education opens up a huge range of opportunities. I have made a change from Fashion to the Humanities. Going back to uni has been the best thing I have done!"

"Clearing is an excellent opportunity to confirm a place and give some certainty to your studies and your life. If you have a look you know you have looked at all options available to you. I dont have personal experience of clearing but I can say that once I had a place confirmed I liked the feeling of knowing what I was doing."

"My experience in researching where and what I wanted to study was different because I applied to study for a PhD, which was advertised on Kingston's website. I contacted the research administration department and went from there."
