Other information: I came to Kingston after having a gap year where I was employed. I am the first in my immediate family to attend higher education. I am a member of a number of societies including Fencing, Twist Choir, Drama, The Voice Magazine, LGBT, KU Volunteering, Feminist Society, Cinema Appreciation Society and Kingston Writing School. I am also a Kingston University Student Ambassador.

I chose Kingston because... it's close to London without being right in the city centre. Also, its connection with the Rose Theatre gives me lots of great opportunities for using the skills I'm learning in my Drama degree in a professional setting.

I have got to where I am now.... because of my parents. They always encouraged me to do whatever it takes to get to my dream - even if it involved moving to the other end of the country. As I'm the first of my immediate family to go to university I couldn't have got here without the support of my family. They also encouraged me never to settle for second best which is why I decided to choose the university that suited my needs the best, not the one that was closest to home.

My plans for the future are... I would like to finish my degree at Kingston, hopefully with a first. After that I still don't know if I want to go into writing and freelance jornalism, or continue my stidies and get a PGCE so I can become a teacher. Thankfully I've still got time to make up my mind!

My year of living dangerously
Posted 7 May 2013 by Sara Ann

Sometimes it seems like yesterday I moved into my room in halls, other times it seems like a lifetim...

More about me

Name one thing you looked forward to before joining university?

The independance and freedom I get from living on my own. Although it was quite difficult to get used to at first it's great being able to do my own shopping and washing. I'm eating a lot healthier now I do my own food shopping as well so moving out has been really good for me.

Who is your hero?

Of the many people I admire I think my ultimate hero would have to be Dawn French. She's a really witty person who never pretends to be something she's not and is very comfortable in her own skin. My favourite quote of hers is, 'If I'd been around when Reubens was painting I'd have been revered as a fabulous model. And Kate Moss? She'd have been the paintbrush.'

Name one thing you couldn't live without at uni

My iPad. I've got a LoveFilm account so I can watch films directly on it and there is also BBC iPlayer, ITV Catch-Up and 4OD available which are a God send. I'm really chaotic when it comes to remembering things I want to watch.

My quotes

"Freshers was mad! I was the first person to move into my halls flat which was scary and brilliant because it meant I got to meet everyone as they arrived and help them settle in. We all went to the Freshers ball together and had a bonding session which was good. My top tip would be to grab fridge space early or you may get left with the bottom draw."

"UCAS was an easy way to apply beacause it had all the courses available to me in one place."

"I chose Kingston first because the offer I was given seemed achievable even if it was the highest one. I was taking a gap year anyway so moving so far away wasn't a worry for me."
