Course: Pharmacy MPharm
Level: Second year
Hometown: Hythe
Other information: I came to Kingston University after studying at college. I have dyslexia. I am currently a member of the Pharmacy society, the Dance club and the Cheerleading club. I do a placement with Boots pharmacy as part of my course. I am a Kingston University student ambassador.
I chose Kingston because... I did not reach my expected grades for A-level and Kingston offered me my current course of study instead. I looked around at what other unis were offering through clearing and I felt that Kingston's offer was the best choice for me.
I have got to where I am now... because I was influenced by both my parents who hoped I would go to uni, and I had always thought that is what I would be doing when I was 18. So I was quite shocked when I did not achieve my expected grades for A-level. Luckily I was aware of the clearing process and overcame this barrier of grades by finding a course at Kingston that suited me.
My plans for the future are... to work in a hospital lab, and my dream is to be able to do this anywhere in the world I choose.

As part of my course a placement is timetabled for one day a week throughout years one and two. I have achieved 4 months with Boots pharmacy in my first year and a month so far this year.
ANYTHING I CAN TRY!
I enjoy various types of dance, cheerleading, sailing, skiing, painting, beading, reading, learning languages, sign language, listening to music...
I looked forward to living fully independently and meeting people from all sorts of different backgrounds. I looked forward to the various different teaching and assessment styles used at university and hoped that I could reach closer to my potential than I had at college.
"Planning is fun, but don't get carried away! By now you should know what finances you'll have whilst at uni so budget accordingly, i.e. sensibly!"
"When I was waiting to hear back from universities I don't remember being nervous but I was pretty impatient!"
"When researching where to study I mostly looked at prospectuses and websites as I felt it was difficult to travel to the universities. Looking back I wish I had put more thought into uni as a whole rather than just worrying about whether I could meet the entrance grades and what modules I would be taking. HE fairs and uni visits are a really good way to ask questions in person and to get a feel for the university as a whole."
