Course: Business Exchange
Level: Study abroad year
Hometown: Queens, New York
Other information: I chose to come to Kingston for my study abroad option as I actually study in America. I am the first in my immediate family to attend higher education and am a Kingston University Student Ambassador.
I chose Kingston because... this university received high recommendations from my home institution, I liked the fact that there was readily available information about the university that I could access when doing my preliminary research. Finally I was interested in studying in London and felt that Kingston would be a great place to begin.
I have got to where I am now... because there were so many that told me I couldn't; doubt fed my ambition. Everything I have is the direct result of hard work and determination. The road here has not been easy, but every obstacle that I have overcome has made me a better person. From finding the funding to study here, running out of money, being in a new country alone, adapting to a new learning style - all of these things have helped to make me a more well rounded person.
My plans for the future are... I plan to return to the United States and do a placement during my final semester of university. I plan to work for a marketing firm called Capstone Consulting while pursuing my dual masters in Global Business and Marketing.
My hero is.....well actually I've got two heroes. My mother and my grandmother. They've shown me by example what it means to be a strong woman. What it means to work hard and the amazing feeling of success and triumph when I meet my goals.
My interests are American football, fast cars, broadening my horizons through plays, operas, movies, and various forms of literature.
Ahead of starting uni I really looked forward to meeting new people, being on my own without my parents for the first time, and learning about who I was as a person and my likes and dislikes.
"Although your insurance choice is not your firm choice, it is still one of your choices. Try your best to meet your requirements. If you do not get your firm choice try not to be discouraged. I didn't get my firm choice when I first enrolled in uni. At first I was very disappointed, however when I attended my insurance choice I had an amazing time. My first year was something I will not soon forget."
"It is good to have an unconditional offer as your insurance choice as you are guaranteed a place that way! Even if it is not your firm choice, having a backup plan is always a good thing. And if your experience of your insurance choice is not what you think it should be, as a student you always have the option to transfer."
"Don't stress too much about meeting the requirements. Do your best to meet them and again don't overthink it. Stressing can often lead to a less than perfect performance, so just do your best and don't worry."
