  • Other information: I came to Kingston University after studying Art foundation at college. I volunteer at the University museum - Dorich House. I am a member of the Movies Art Design society, and the Wine society too!  I am a Kingston University student ambassador.

I chose Kingston because... I felt that I needed to be in London in order to make the most of studying the arts – the opportunities to visit galleries and meet creative people are huge. However, I didn't think that I would cope very well living in the centre of a big city, as I have lived rurally all my life. Kingston offered a beautiful, relatively quiet place to study, but is not too far from the hustle and bustle of the big city!

I have got to where I am now... as I have always had a strong interest in art, and have always been creative. However for a long time I thought I would become an Art Practitioner, rather than an Art Historian, so at A-level I studied both subjects. Whilst doing Art Foundation however I realised how important writing and research are to me, so I applied for the joint honours course at Kingston. Having studied on both courses for a semester however, I realised that History of Art was more for me, so switched to the full field course. It has been a huge success, and I am now looking forward to entering the Arts industry in the not too distant future!

My plans for the future are... I am currently debating whether or not to do an MA in Curating or Arts Market, or whether to attempt to join a commercial gallery instead. This summer I intend to get as much experience as possible in a variety of fields though; working in a museum and auction house, and then hopefully I will be able to make a decision based on this and some sound advice from my tutors!

More about me

Who is your hero?

Dorothy Parker – ''The cure for boredom is curiosity; there is no cure for curiosity.''

Describe a typical day at uni

A typical day at uni involves me getting up fairly early for work as a Library Assistant at the University, working there for a few hours and then strolling back down the river, home for some lunch. I then usually have a lecture over at Knights Park which is often followed by a cup of tea or a gin and tonic depending on the time, sat by the river in the Student Union bar. Then I'll either have to head back early and crack on with the latest essay, or, begin getting ready for a night out – drinks at The Mill, followed by New Slang (live band night) at the Hippodrome!

What are your interests?

I love music, meeting friends, strolls in the park and travelling!

My quotes

"I went through the standard UCAS route, but as I was applying for an art course the route was slightly different. Interviews and my portfolio were very important, so make sure that you are able to expand on, or explain, anything you write in your application at a later date."

"Higher education is right for me, as it has provided a perfect transition between school and work. A few years to study what I want, live how I want to, and meet new people. Yes it may cost a lot, but the experiences I have had wouldn't have been possible without coming here."

"I was very nervous about living in halls and moving to a city where I didn't know anyone. But, as soon as I received an offer for halls I was able to trace the people I lived with via a Facebook group which made the initial introductions much easier! I also realised that they were in exactly the same boat as I was, so I was not alone."
