Course: Fine Art
Level: Second year
Hometown: Reading
Other information: I deferred my place and took a gap year before starting at Kingston. I am a Kingston University student ambassador.
I chose Kingston because... it offered me the right environment for me to expand in. The course gave me freedom to practise my interests and offered me more facilities and guidance than other universities. I also fell in love with the town; it felt right to me and it was somewhere I could easily picture myself being. There was a new but familiar feeling to the town.
I got to where I am now... I was initially scared of the concept of university so I decided to spend a gap year taking another course at my college. It was on this BTEC course I saw the opportunities that university could give me. Not just for careers but experiences. On my one year course I met a wide range of individuals who were like me – scared of a daunting future, but together with other peers and tutors I made the jump for university. I owe where I am right now to the people I met during that year.
My plans for the future are... I would like to continue studying in my field and one day move onto something which revolves around my love for immersive story telling like set design and game design and I've even played with the idea of coming up with my own graphic novel. However I'm also deeply interested in teaching and have considered this notion.

I'm not sure a typical day for me exists, however the closest thing to it is: going into studio at whatever time I fancy (it's generally around 11am) and continuing on whatever I've been working on for a few hours and heading home for the day (generally between 4-5pm). Fine art isn't a subject with a strict concrete timetable. One day I could be in my studio working, next I could be strolling around galleries in London or even working in the metal workshops.
Post-it notes! I'm not even joking. My life and future life exists on post-it notes dotted about my room, if it's on a post-it note in my room then it's important. Oh and one more thing, cups of tea.

"Waiting is always the hard part regardless of what you're waiting for; however I didn't have to wait too long to receive my offer and I was over the moon when I did."
"I generally found it easier to think of completing the UCAS form as a more extensive job application form."
"I deferred my entry to university so I had an extra year to get everything sorted so all I had to think about was being able to meet the conditions of my offer. There was so much less stress when I just had to focus on my course and nothing else."
