Other information: I came to Kingston after working as a Youth Support Worker. I am a Kingston University student ambassador.

I chose Kingston because... I wanted to be close to London and I wanted to go to a smaller campus university. Kingston seemed perfectly located with a nice campus.

I have got to where I am now.... I got quite ill and had to leave my last degree. I then spent some time recovering and working as a youth support worker in Oxford which made me see the world in a different way. I became very interested in inequality which led me to study Sociology and Criminology. Seeing how some people struggle for reasons that are out of their control motivates me to work hard.

My plans for the future are... I want to go on to do a MSc in Public Policy and work for an international non-governmental organisation with a focus on international third world development.

What is your top tip for university?

1. Go for it - be sociable in your first week, go out, talk to people and have fun. Everyone is in the same boat so try not to be nervous. Go for things you would never have tried before because you will find you aren't the only one!

2. Go to your lectures in first year. Making an effort in first year makes your second and third year easier. Trust me.

Who is your hero?

King Julian - it is a long, sad and painful story.

What are your interests?

Eating, running, sleeping, drinking, reading, writing, dancing, going out, travel, the gym, squash, tennis, face, sushi, music, general mischief, Madagascar!

My quotes

"Get to Enrolment and Induction early. Everyone is really friendly and the student ambassadors are really helpful, but it gets very very busy and you may have to wait for a while. It is worth bearing the hangover and waking up early so you don't have to queue for ages. You can console yourself with the knowledge that you can go back to bed afterwards."

"My route into Higher Education was fairly random but it paid off in the end. I think the most important thing is to make sure you are comfortable with your choices and decisions and if there is anything you are unsure about to talk to someone about it as soon as possible. Make sure you are realistic with the universities you apply to. Don't apply somewhere that you know you won't get the grades for."

"I came to uni because I wanted to study further but I also needed it for my degree."
