Coombehurst House and Visconti Studio

Music facilities

Coombehurst House, a Regency mansion on Kingston Hill, is home to our music students. The attractive and characterful setting combines old and new architecture with spacious lawns.

The department is well equipped with pianos and percussion and a wide range of ethnic and classroom instruments. We also have an extensive selection of amplification and performance support equipment and a large collection of scores and sheet music.

Students can also use our computer and electronic equipment, including specialist networked facilities, with related musical software and a full range of keyboards and sequencing workstations.

The Visconti Studio is our analogue/digital hybrid studio based around an extraordinary 300m2 octagonal live room, stocked with vintage and rare recording equipment (Studer, Neve, Neumann, Universal Audio, Roland Space Echo). The tape-based studio also features a unique collection of instruments including a Mellotron, a Hammond organ with Leslie cabinet, and a Steinway concert grand piano.

Nearby Coombehurst Court houses extra teaching and practice rooms, and Coombehurst Lodge has two small recording studios with associated live room/vocal booth.
