Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment / Pro Vice-Chancellor: Dr David Mackintosh

About David

David Mackintosh was appointed PVC / Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing in 2017. He held various roles at Kingston prior to this, including: Deputy Vice Chancellor 2009-17 (Acting Vice chancellor 2010), Dean Of Science 2004-09 and Head of School of Life Sciences 2002-04.)

He took his first degree in biochemistry at the University of Kent, and then a doctorate in diabetic kidney disease at Guy's Hospital Medical School, post-doctoral research and then a lectureship at Charing Cross Medical School followed before joining Kingston.
 
David's interests range across most aspects of the student lifecycle. He has been responsible for, planning, portfolio development, quality assurance and enhancement, home and international student recruitment and student support. 

He has been active in a number of research areas but a recent focus has seen publications on pancreatic cancer and potential treatments and pancreatic islet beta cell survival and proliferation

Responsibilities and portfolio areas

As a member of the University's Senior Leadership Team and Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment, David has both Faculty and University leadership roles:

  • Strategic leadership and management of Faculty Leadership Team 
  • Overview of large schools: Computer Science and Mathematics; Engineering and the Environment.
  • Chair of the Professional Services and Support Review Steering group and previously Academic lead for the implementation of Plan 2020 
  • Chair of the management and union Joint Negotiating and Consultative Committee (JNCC)  

External work

David's external work has included:

  • Two terms as Governor at Kingston College
  • Institutional lead and Executive member of the South West London Academic Health and Social Care System
  • Chair of the South West London Academic Network (Swan)
  • Member of London Metropolitan University Institutional level Academic Awards Board
