Graduation Support Fund

Please note: Applications for the Graduation Support Funds for ceremonies in January 2020 are closed. All funds have now been allocated.

What is the Graduation Support Fund?

We understand that sometimes students are unable to attend their graduation ceremony because they are unable to meet the cost of tickets for their guests and pay for gown hire.

Students who are facing financial hardship have the opportunity to submit an application to the Graduation Support Fund which will provide up to two guest tickets and gown hire (for your graduation day) free of charge . There is a very limited number of graduation support funds (per faculty) available and these will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, if all criteria are met.

If you are applying to the fund, you still need to register that you'll be attending your graduation ceremony on OSIS  before you submit your application. If you don't register for your graduate ticket on OSIS, your application for the support fund will not be considered.

You should not book your gown or guest tickets until you have been informed about the outcome of your application.

Who can apply? (What is the criteria?)

To be eligible to apply you must meet all of the below criteria:

1.     You must be eligible to graduate in January 2020. See more information about eligibility to attend the graduation ceremony. Invitations will be sent out in the last week of October

2.     You are a UK undergraduate or UK postgraduate student in receipt of a maintenance loan from Student Finance.

3.     Your household income is under £15,000 (as assessed by Student Finance England).

4.     You have cleared any fees or charges with Kingston University.

Please note: Care Leaver students need not apply for the Graduation Support Fund. You will be emailed by the KU Cares team about support offered for your graduation ceremony.

When should I apply?

Applications to the Graduation Support Fund will open at 9am on Tuesday 5 November 2019.

Applications will close on Wednesday 20 November 2019 at 5pm (but may close sooner should all funds be allocated). Therefore, you should submit your application as early as possible from the time the scheme opens.

You will be informed if your application has been successful or not by email within two weeks of your submission. Please do not contact us about your application before two weeks have passed.

The decision of the Graduation Support Fund is final and is not subject to appeal. We have a limited number of funds per faculty and these will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on all criteria being met.

Please note that if your application is successful but you are notified that you have not achieved your award in time for the ceremonies in January 2020, your graduation support fund will be cancelled.

Regardless of whether you are provided with free guest tickets or not, it is your responsibility to register your attendance on OSIS before you submit your application.
