Visitors to this year's Civic Reception will have the exclusive opportunity to tour Town House, Kingston University's new landmark building which will include a learning resources centre, specialist learning spaces, a covered courtyard, cafés, events spaces and landscaped areas - for use not just by Kingston University students but for the community as a whole.
Town House will be the first building to be opened in the UK designed by RIBA award winning and Stirling Prize nominated Grafton Architects. Willmott Dixon were appointed to deliver this exciting project in 2016 and since work began in April 2017, the building has very rapidly taken shape thanks to its innovative construction method.
Imagine a very big 3D jigsaw. The entire concrete frame has been manufactured offsite and is being assembled piece-by-piece by two 35 metre tall tower cranes to create a new building that will transform the learning experience for students and bring together the University and the local community.
Your visit will start with a brief site induction and presentation before kitting you out in protective clothing and taking you on a tour of the site.
On your tour, you will have the opportunity to see some of the fantastic teaching and communal spaces being constructed.
If the weather is good, you may even be able to take in the views from the roof which includes a glimpse of Hampton Court Palace.
Along the way we will show you some of the interesting features which make this project so special. Following your tour, you will have the opportunity to explore the building in a greater depth using our state-of-the-art 3D model and virtual reality headsets.
