Curriculum content

The module requires substantial independent activity by the student. They will draw upon previous modules in order to carry out research and write a report. Students will be supervised by their work placement supervisor. Supervision will be given either via electronic communication, face-to-face or a combination of both.

Teaching and learning strategy

Students will receive guidance and feedback from a supervisor in the conduct and preparation of their report.

Students will be given a set of deadlines for submission of a two-page project proposal outline, of a first draft and for submission of the final Management Report. The final Management Report will normally be due after the end of the work placement module, at the end of September, to allow time for students to develop the report.

Assessment strategy

Summative assessment is through a management report based on research conducted in a host organisation reporting on a management issue to the organisation, and recommending steps to manage the situation. Formative assessment includes feedback from the supervisor, proposal, and drafts. This will provide opportunities for feedback to students so that they can develop an awareness of their own progression, strengths and weaknesses, and feed-forward learning to the management report, and more widely to their course.
