Summary

The internship, of a minimum duration of two weeks, will enable students to apply and develop in real organisations, in the legal sector as well as in other professional sectors, the knowledge and skills they have learnt in the classroom. It will prepare them to excel in the final year of their studies, as well as enhancing the skills and attributes employers expect new recruits to possess. All placement providers will be subject to due diligence and ongoing monitoring to ensure that the student experience is of a high quality and that equality, diversity and inclusion standards are met. This applies equally to placement providers based overseas. This module is delivered during TB3. All students enrolled on the LLB with Professional Experience or on the LLB International with Professional Experience must take a TB3 module at L4.

Aims

  • to consolidate and apply academic learning and management skills in a work environment and to develop these skills further

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will be able to:

  • identify and provide an account of how their skills have developed during the period of placement

Curriculum content

The type of work experience gained by students will vary according to the organisation which employs them, in the legal sector and in other professions. It will constitute a valuable introduction into the world of work and require students to make use of the skills acquired in the professional readiness module throughout the academic year.

Teaching and learning strategy

This module is introduced by briefing sessions during the Professional Readiness module, but is mainly reliant on independent activity on the part of the student with the aid of the employer and the placements team. Students will be supported throughout the internship by the module leader and the internship administrative support.

Assessment strategy

Assessment is based on satisfactory completion of student portfolio which will be composed of the internship, the employer's form, a description of the job tasks, an updated CV, and a reflective essay.
