Jazz First Tuesday: Yazz Ahmed

Kingston University closes its season of lunchtime jazz sessions with exciting new talent Yazz Ahmed.

A British Bahraini trumpet and flugelhorn player, Yazz won great reviews for her debut at Ronnie Scott's and has since performed at numerous other venues. Yazz has recorded and performed with Radiohead, Max Romeo, and others and toured the world with art-rock band. In 2014 Yazz made her debut on the Jools Holland show.

More recently Yazz has been selected as an London Symphony Orchestra soundhub composer and will be writing music for her newly developed quarter tone flugelhorn. Her debut album Finding My Way Home was included in Gary Crosby's top five releases for 2011. It includes a collection of original compositions and improvisations exploring the sounds and rhythms of her Arabic heritage contrasted with classic British jazz pieces from the 50s and 60s, which influenced her teenage years.

Yazz is currently working on her second album which will feature both her bands, some duets with Lewis Wright and collaboration with Swedish guitarist, Samuel Hallkvist.

A unique lunchtime of jazz not to be missed!
