Together a Chance: embedding social workers in women's prisons

Together a Chance: embedding social workers in women's prisons, with Becky Wray and Katia Parent, Prison Advice and Care Trust.

Date: Wednesday 4th December

Time: 1-2pm

Format: Online via MS Teams

Women in prison are often overlooked in policy, planning and services, including social work. In this seminar, Becky Wray and Katia Parent will present their experience of a unique project, Together a Chance, which saw them create a distinctive social work role in two women's prisons. Becky and Katia will introduce the aims of the project, describe their role and everyday aspects of practice, and give an insight into working with marginalised women within custodial environments. The seminar will provide an opportunity to consider new ways of working within women's prisons and discuss the role of child and family social workers in this setting.

Katia Parent graduated as a Social Worker in Canada in 2013, and has worked as a Child Protection Worker until moving to the UK in 2019 where she continued to work within child protection as a Children Social Worker. She then worked as Crisis Social Worker at Heathrow Airport before joining the Together a Chance pilot project in 2021.

Becky Wray has been practicing as a qualified social worker since 2014 and in her current role since 2021. Prior to this Becky worked within the NHS and local authority to support families and marginalised communities in need.

Booking is essential to attend this event.
