A Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP) workshop.
This event will reflect upon the widely accepted passage from the 'postmodern' to the 'contemporary', not in order to produce a new legitimation narrative for contemporary art, but rather with a view to (re)constructing its concept. The concept of the contemporary is only falsely shared. To define such art means to 'disidentify' with it, in order to deal with all of the social mutations of knowledge and power that it involves. Within this problematizing frame, and beyond an overly linear periodization, the event will take up once again the enquiry into conceptual art – and after. How can we account for the junctions and disjunctions of the material and immaterial logics of art today? In what ways can such art meaningfully be described as 'postconceptual'?
