School Direct Training - Key features
The course begins in September 2019 when you will be required to attend Kingston University although you may be expected to attend your placement school prior to this. Please liaise with the Lead School contact for further information.
The structure of the course is the same as PGCE Primary or Secondary mainstream which means you will spend your time between schools and the University.
What you will study
The Professional Practice module includes a taught element at university and your two contrasting school experience placements made up of 120 days in schools. Your practical experience will be assessed against the Teachers' Standards. Mentors within the school and your university tutors will provide training, support and guidance.
The Reflective Professional masters module will enable you to develop your understanding of the importance of reflective practice in teaching and how to use frameworks of reflection to identify issues and develop solutions in your teaching.
The Perspectives on Policy, Practice and Professionalism for teachers masters module will enable you to understand the wider research and policy debates around teaching and learning as well as developing your ability to use research in your teaching practice.
You will be awarded the Qualified Teacher Status and PGCE with 60 masters level credits upon successful completion of the programme. Your 60 PGCE credits can be imported into our Master of Research in Education (MRes) allowing you to continue study towards a full masters level degree.

All applications are made via UCAS Teacher Training to your Lead School. This may be different to your actual placement school.
