In October 2024 there will be one Arabic module: level 1 and in January 2025 there will be two Arabic modules: Level 1 and Level 2

Method of delivery: Arabic modules are taught face-to face in Penrhyn Road faculty.

At the end of the teaching block there will be two assessments: Reading & Writing (in-class assessment at Penrhyn Road) and an Online oral Assessment.

Please note: KLS assessments cannot be re-scheduled.

Please also note: a minimum of 10 students is required in order for a course to run. Should any course not recruit enough students, it will be cancelled.

Arabic courses offered

Arabic Level 1

This module is designed to give students with no previous experience of the language a basic knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic which is the language recognised throughout the Arab world. It will provide students with the skills and principles to enable them to express simple ideas, provide and respond to simple information orally and in writing and interact satisfactorily in a limited number of everyday situations and social encounters. Some aspects of the foreign culture and environment will also be introduced.

  • Entry requirements: None
  • Level 1 module is offered in October 2024 and January 2025
  • Method of delivery: Face to face
  • Timetable for October course: Tuesdays 6-8pm
  • Timetable for January course: Tuesdays 4-6pm

Arabic Level 2

This is a near-beginner module in Modern Standard Arabic which will build upon the elements of language and cultural awareness which have been introduced in Level 1 or gained from the student's previous experience of the language. It will provide students with the language skills to enable them to interact satisfactorily in survival situations and social encounters and to be aware of related aspects of the foreign culture and environment.

  • Entry requirements: Completion of Level 1 or three months' prior language learning
  • Level 2 module is offered in January 2025
  • Method of delivery: Face to face
  • Venue: Penrhyn Road
  • Timetable for January course: Tuesdays 6-8pm

Teaching Block 2 (semester 2):

  • Week commencing 20 January 2025 to week commencing 24 March 2025 (10 weeks).

Course fees

  • Kingston University students: free (you will be required to purchase the course textbook independently at the beginning of the course. Your tutor will provide details in the first class).
  • Members of the public: £225 per semester or £420 for two semesters.
  • Kingston University alumni: £210 per semester or £400 for two semesters.
  • Kingston University staff: £90 per semester (price includes digital course book).
