Study design

As a Kingston School of Art student, you will be encouraged to experiment, take risks and develop your own signature style. You will join an art school with a renowned reputation; we are ranked No. 7 in the UK for design and crafts, which covers creative and cultural industries, graphic design, interior design, illustration, animation and product and furniture design, and no.3 and top in London for fashion and textiles (Guardian University Guide league tables 2022).

Our academic staff are successful artists and designers, complementing your studies with a broad mix of experience and enabling you to gain an insight into life as a working practitioner. Our strong links with the art world and creative industries mean you will get to test your designs with real companies, respond to live briefs and attend guest lectures from renowned artists, designers, and practitioners.

The practical emphasis of our courses, the presence, on-site, of the Stanley Picker Gallery, and the open access to Kingston School of Art's brand new, high quality, inspiring, workshops allow you the freedom to develop your design practice in a creative, vibrant environment.

The large 3D workshop and interdisciplinary construction area offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of materials from wood to metal and plastic, to wax and ceramics, while the digital media workshop boasts a wide range of design-related software, and the fashion workshops offer sewing and knit spaces.

There is also a hackspace where you can meet and collaborate with other postgraduate students who have similar interests, such as computers, machining, technology, science, digital and electronic art.

Our graduates have gone on to work in museums, galleries, and cultural organisations around the world; many have gone into working freelance or even starting their own business, as well as working for corporations such as Made.com, Lenovo, COS, Hugo Boss, and more.
