Study English and creative writing

Our English and creative writing courses offer supportive environments which allow you to explore new ideas and techniques which enable you to develop as confident and versatile writers. You will be taught by leading academics with highly rated research publications, award-winning authors and actively practising professionals.

As an English or creative writing student, you will have access to the Writers' Centre, Kingston, our own literary cultural centre. You will become part of a thriving community which hosts a programme of events featuring guest speakers, readings, workshops and poetry festivals, designed to enhance your learning. You will have the opportunity to contribute to Ripple, the University's publication for fiction, poetry, reviews and creative non-fiction contributions.

Professional skills are taught alongside research skills and theory, with all our courses culminating in a major project. Each of our courses offer an optional year integrated work placement programme to help you gain valuable, practical industry experience, providing you with the opportunity to link your studies to real-life situations at work.
