Why do this course?

Whether you're just starting your career or an experienced practitioner, the CPESA Summer School will allow you to start the new academic year full of enthusiasm. The Summer School will introduce you to the CPESA framework for PE. This will both support and challenge your thinking and current practice.

  • Have the chance to think deeply and critically about what you are trying to achieve in your work
  • Examine inclusive practice in PE and Sport
  • Put it into practice - there'll be practical activities every day (We don't believe in just talking about it!)
  • Collaborate with equally committed people and have a great time

Course description

The course will take place over four days of contact at our Kingston Hill campus and consists of both practical and teaching components.

Teaching components will take place at Kingston Hill campus and practical components will be conducted at the nearby Roehampton Sports Centre.

Each day will start and end at Kingston Hill campus - transportation between the two venues is included in the price of the course.

This course will also be supported by Kingston University's e-learning resources.

What will you take away?

During this course you will:

  • have a chance to examine in depth the purpose and rationale for PESA;
  • look at alternative ways of managing the active environment;
  • be introduced to the CPESA 3 Cue framework to guide interactions with your learners;
  • take away lots of activity ideas to implement in your sessions; and
  • take part in a range of practical sessions to experience how the above might come together.

Course tutors

Greg Dryer

Director, Centre for Physical Education, Sport and Activity

Greg was Head of PE in three London schools. He has extensive experience in physical education and sport working with three year olds through to postgraduates. His career mission is to make all forms of physical activity and the benefits they bring, available to all young people by breaking down barriers and transforming teaching and coaching to ensure that practitioners in the field are have the knowledge, skills and understanding to deliver developmental, learner-centred, inclusive practices.

His academic interests are in curriculum design, critical pedagogy, behaviour economics, critical race theory, intersectionality and PESA.

Declan Hamblin

Senior Lecturer

Declan has worked with numerous London school staff as part of a school sport partnership and through teacher education. He has led departments and been a Borough Advisor for PE as well as the former Vice-Chair of the Association for PE. His extensive overseas experience has seen him work in pre-school settings right through to university. Declan is also a doctoral student who is interested in researching the inclusivity of physical education for all communities.
