Dr Isil Onol

About

With over twenty years of diverse experience in the creative industries in the UK, I am a creative consultant, curator and a design practitioner. Following a three-year employment with the BBC as a designer, I have been teaching in higher education since 2003, first as a visiting lecturer alongside research and practice, then full-time as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lincoln and the University of Greenwich. I completed a PhD in 2011 in the interdisciplinary field of museums, curating and creative technologies. My doctoral research investigated the role of 'touch' in interpreting museum and gallery objects through artistic collaboration studying material and digital data. My research contributed to design and museums literature, and generated public outputs in the form of alternative forms of curating and tactile exhibitions with special focus on haptic technologies and visual impairment. I am currently on the editorial board of The Design Journal (Taylor & Francis Group) and have recently joined the Board of Trustees of B-Arts, a combined and participatory arts organisation in Stoke on Trent, whilst working as an Artistic and Quality Assessor for the Arts Council England. I am a Churchill Fellow, and also Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
