Dr Joshua Omer BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, GMICE, MDFI


As the Exams and Assessment Tutor, I oversee and co-ordinate the assessment process in the Department, to ensure a positive student experience. I have 30 years of experience working in academia and industry, both in the UK and overseas. I was a commonwealth PhD scholar funded by the UK Government and the Institution of Civil Engineers. I have been a Royal Society Industrial Fellow and recipient of the David Douglas Prize awarded by the South Wales Institute of Engineers (UK). I am currently member of the (i) Institution of Civil Engineers, (ii) British Geotechnical Association and (iii) Deep Foundations Institute (DFI, USA), (iv) DFI Technical Committee on Drilled Shafts and (v) Technical committee 107 (Lateritic Soils) of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). Also I am currently (a) an external examiner at the University of Nairobi (Kenya), (b) editorial board member of both the Journal of Geological Resource & Engineering and the ISSMGE Journal of Geo-Engineering Case Studies (c) member of the DFI Working Group on the Chennai Metro Rail Project (India)

I have served in peer reviewer panels for the following journals: Geotechnique, Canadian Geotechnical Journal, ICE Proceedings, Applied Clay Science Journal, Journal of Adhesion, Journal Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering and book reviewer for CRC Press-Taylor Francis.  

I collaborate with academics in USA, China, Spain, UAE, Iran and Kenya in scholarly and curriculum activities.
