Dr Ned Umeokafor

Lecturer in Construction Law

About

I hold a chartered membership status with the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) as a Chartered Construction Manager (MCIOB). I am also a Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (MInstLM) and a Graduate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Grad IOSH).

 I have held academic posts in the UK, for example in the University of Greenwich, University of East London and University College of Estate Management (UCEM) where I also sat in the school's Research Committee. I have also held various industrial and consultancy positions in abroad and the UK, the most recent being a Health and Safety Manager.

I am research-active with publications in leading reputable refereed built environment and safety, health and environment journals (e.g. Elsevier Safety Science), international conferences (e.g. International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) W099) and book chapters. I am a member of the editorial review panel of the Journal of Construction Business and Management and a reviewer for many journals and conferences not limited to the International Journal of Construction Management, Journal of Engineering Design and Technology, and CIB W099.

While I am a socio-legal scholar, my other areas of research are construction education including pedagogy; construction law, contract administration and management; contextual influences in construction management; health, safety, environment and well-being; construction and project management; construction management in developing countries; and construction procurement. I am open to supervising doctorates in these areas.

I have received various honours/recognitions/awards not limited to CIB W099 bursary Award; UCEM Principal's Development Award; UCEM Values award for Passion ' and three nominations from the school of which two are for the teaching award of ‘Recognition of Excellence' for two consecutive years and one for ‘Innovation in Teaching and Learning'.
