Mr Robin Tarbet

Senior Lecturer and Pathway Leader in Fine Art

I am an artist and lecturer based in London.

I joined Kingston University as an academic after being awarded the Stanley Picker Tutorship in Fine Art (Printmaking) in 2006. My practice as an artist is concerned with the material detritus of the everyday, from consumer products to industrial systems within the landscape, and I create physical responses to data in the form of futuristic monuments, fossil ruins and technological relics. My work combines printmaking and casting with live film and installation and I regularly exhibit both in the UK and internationally. Whilst showing in many exhibitions from the Hayward Gallery to the London Underground network, recent projects include Power In The Land touring exhibition and book, and a research studio residency and exhibition with ESXLA in Los Angeles.

In 2017 I launched Swap Editions, a not-for-profit initiative publishing curated sets of limited edition artists' multiples semi-annually in Spring and Autumn.

Areas of specialism

Courses taught

  • MA Fine Art Printmaking - Royal College of Art

Research is an ongoing research project with a group of artists responding to the decommissioning of the last nuclear power station in Wales. As an artist led initiative we gained ACW Grant Funding, published a book and completed a Welsh touring exhibition in 2016/17 visiting Oriel DaviesAberystwyth Arts Centre and Bay Art Cardiff, with film screenings and symposiums in Modern Art OxfordMostyn and a conference in Helsinki. My work titled 19 Concrete Punctuations is a large scale series of concrete relief casts accompanied by a film titled Orange Buckets

Curating and publishing has a strong importance within my practice. This year I launched a growing collection of artist's multiples commissioned as editions in a wide range of materials. Publishing Semi-annually each edition launches with an exhibition. As an artist run, not-for-profit initiative Swap Editions is sustained by swapping art objects with time and services. Swap Editions artworks are deliberately not for sale.
