Mrs Kulwinder Maude

Senior lecturer

About

I joined Kingston University in 2014 as a Senior Lecturer in Primary English where I teach on both undergraduate and post graduate teacher training courses ranging from level 4 to level 7. I have spent over 20 years working in different sectors of education, including extensive experience of teaching and leading in primary schools (England and India) as well as five years in Higher Education. I worked as an EAL Coordinator and later as an Inclusion Manager in primary settings in London. My primary classroom teaching experiences are rooted in multilingual and challenging school settings within Hounslow and Hillingdon.

I consistently deliver excellent teaching, assessment, feedback and tutoring to a diverse range of students as part of our broader programmes, support student teachers in their learning and provide a stimulating learning environment both within and outside the university. I am an external examiner on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses (Primary and Secondary SCITT) in Initial Teacher Education providing contextualized evaluations, opinions and judgements along with impartial advice to institutions both to ensure that students are treated fairly and to improve the quality of the education they provide.

Research

My research interests are primarily focussed on key issues in teaching and pedagogy of primary English. I make regular contributions to scholarship in the form of book chapters; presenting at various conferences and peer reviewing journal submissions for the Teacher Education Advancement Network (TEAN) which is a collaborative initiative, mutually beneficial platform to teacher education providers and associated organisations across the four countries of the UK. I also work in close collaboration with colleagues from Durham University (Initial Teacher Education programmes) sharing expertise as well as working on collaborative research projects.

I have a particular interest in English as an Additional Language. My membership and affiliation to the BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Networking Group (led by Prof. Paul Miller (University of Huddersfield) and Dr Christine Collandar (UCL, London) provides collaborative learning and teaching opportunities with colleagues from other universities to enhance the quality and efficiency of my teaching and research outputs.
