Biomedical Science BSc(Hons): Entry requirements

Entry requirements for 2018

Typical offer

Points: minimum 112/128, depending on qualifications

Units: to include a minimum of two science A-levels or equivalent

Subjects:

  • A-level: 112 points: from at least two science A2s.
  • BTEC National Extended Diploma: 128 points for BTEC (Diploma under NQF or Extended Diploma under QCF).
  • Access to HE diploma: 128 UCAS points including 45 credits at level 3 with Biology and Chemistry modules passed with a Merit grade or above.
  • Plus GCSE candidates are normally required to hold five GCSE subjects grades A-C including Mathematics and English Language (or comparable numeric score under the newly reformed GCSE grading).
  • Tariff points for AS levels completed but not carried forward to A2 level are included in points total.

Other entry routes 

  • Science foundation year.
  • We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer. Applications from international students with equivalent qualifications are welcome. Please contact us for details.

  • A-level: 112 points: with Biology or Human Biology at grade C plus at least one other Science Subject (Chemistry, Physics, Psychology or Mathematics).
  • BTEC National Extended Diploma: 128 points for BTEC (Diploma under NQF or Extended Diploma under QCF).
  • Access to HE diploma: Equivalent of 112 UCAS points with a minimum of 30 credits in Biology & Chemistry modules with a pass at Merit grade or above.
  • GCSE: Candidates are normally required to hold five GCSE subjects grades A*C including English Language, Mathematics and Double Award Science.
  • Tariff points for AS levels completed but not carried forward to A2 level are included in points total.

Interviews, entrance tests, auditions and portfolios

Entry on to this course does not require an interview, entrance test, audition or portfolio.

If you don't meet the above entry requirements our International Foundation Year can prepare you for entry progression onto this degree course.

English language requirements

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
