Drama and Film Cultures BA(Hons): Facilities

About our specialist drama facilities

Drama is based at the Reg Bailey building on our Penrhyn Road campus. There are two flexible black box studios, complete with lighting, sound and projection equipment, as well as four rehearsal rooms. The staff are also based in the building, which is entirely dedicated to drama.

We also have a relationship with the Rose Theatre, Kingston.

Resources in London

Kingston is just a 25-minute train journey away from central London. Here you can access a wealth of theatres and performance spaces, including the National Theatre, the Barbican Centre and West End theatres.

About our modern learning environment

There is a wide range of facilities at our Penrhyn Road campus, where this course is based.

Penrhyn Road campusThe campus has grown around the original four-storey main building, which houses many of the important hubs of activity like the main student restaurant, the learning resources centre (LRC), and a host of teaching rooms and lecture theatres.

At the heart of the campus is the John Galsworthy building, a £20million teaching and learning facility. The six-storey complex brings together lecture theatres, flexible teaching space and information technology suites around a landscaped courtyard.

The £9.8million Eadweard Muybridge building also provides spacious specialist laboratories and teaching spaces.

Learning resources centre

Penrhyn Road Learning Resources CentrePenrhyn Road Library, also known as Penrhyn Road Learning Resources Centre (LRC) provides high quality support (face to face and online) to assist with learning and research at Kingston University. It combines books (electronic and printed) computers and laptops in a pleasant study environment including the Learning Café and Reading garden. The library is open 24 hours a day (Sunday to Thursday nights) in key teaching weeks, whilst the library online chat service is available seven days a week and can be used on and off campus along with electronic resources.

The library is zoned for all your different study needs and offers you a wide range of study spaces including an Assisted Technology Room (ATR) and group study rooms.

A brand new state of the art university building is in construction and the library will relocate to the new six floor Town House building at the Penrhyn Road campus.

Computer resources

Business and social sciences students have their own dedicated computer labs and technical support. There are more than 300 computer terminals for the exclusive use of the students (in addition to the University's general computing labs). Some of the labs provide specialist hardware and software for specific courses.

Loans room

Penrhyn Road campus has a loans room from which students in the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and Kingston School of Art can borrow a wide range of resources for conducting practical work, such as cameras, digital camcorders and tripods, PA systems, microphones, voice recorders and laptops. Specialist rooms can also be booked for audio recording, broadcast media and laboratory tests, amongst others. The loans room is open to students Monday to Friday to collect and return items, and equipment can be hired for a period of half a day up to several months, depending on the type of equipment and the course. Bookings can also be made online (depending on availability).
