Drama and English BA(Hons): What our students say

Student profiles

Don't just take our word for it – here's what students say about what it's like to study at Kingston University.

Veronica Osimani

Name: Veronica Osimani

"Kingston University was my first choice for higher education when applying through UCAS. Having completed my high school studies, my A Levels equivalent and having trained at Teatro Della Dodicesima in Rome, Italy, my main focus was to enter a university involving an eclectic knowledge and training of the performing arts. Having received very good reviews from friends living in the UK and having analysed the course prospectus for Drama with English Literature, I trusted the combined course perfectly reflected my passion and interest for the arts.

From the drama perspective, I really believed the facilities at Kingston were phenomenal, with professional lecturers talking very passionately about the topics they were teaching. The drama course content is very eclectic, varying from studies of Shakespeare to stand-up, Stanislavskian approach to physical theatre, so throughout your degree you can really develop your knowledge of performing arts as well as acting skills. The academic staff have always been very encouraging of my work proposals as well as supporting experimental theatre and performance, and they also provided and in some way "prepared" students to deal with potential work opportunities after university which I found to be really helpful. With regards to my English Literature studies, I really enjoyed the prospectus and case studies the department provided, analysing genres in a very detailed and fascinating way.

Overall, the course not only taught and provided me great knowledge of the subjects I have always been keen to specialise in but it also provided me the opportunity to develop and express my own ideas and has immensely helped to build my path towards my career as an actor. My bachelors with honours in fact brought me to enrol in the following years in a Master of Arts in Theatre at the University of York and Master of Arts in Drama & Physical Actor Training at the University of Kent, and I won Best Female Actor at the Birmingham Film Festival 2018."
