Early Years: Leadership & Management Foundation Degree FdA: Entry requirements

Entry requirements for 2019

Typical offer

  • Level 3 early years qualification (or equivalent)
  • Employment in an appropriate setting (either paid or voluntary) for at least 16 hours per week for the duration of the course
  • Normally two years' experience in an appropriate setting

The selection process involves interview at your chosen college, selection exercises and a current DBS check.

Other entry routes

We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer.

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) is offered for those who are unsure of the current value of their qualifications. We actively welcome applications from mature students from a variety of backgrounds. We are seeking people who wish to enthuse and motivate young children as well as developing further their own knowledge, skills and understanding in young children's care and education.

English language requirements

International students who have the necessary visa/permit to work in the UK are welcome to apply. Please note the course does not meet the criteria for UK Tier 4 student visa. If you are unsure of the current immigration rules, please contact our CAS and Visa Compliance team at

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall with special conditions in all elements. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised majority English speaking countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
