International Law LLB(Hons) with professional experience: What our students say

Student profiles

Don't just take our word for it – here's what students say about what it's like to study at Kingston University.

Taran Athwal

Name: Taran Athwal
Course: Law LLB(Hons)

Taran Athwal was Head Delegate at the National Model United Nations (NMUN). Read her account of the event:

"Being able to participate in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) was a truly rewarding experience for the law students of Kingston University. The annual conference is a simulation in which students from all over the world address global concerns in a real-world context whilst representing the country to which they have been assigned. Kingston University students were fortunate enough to participate due to the organisation, planning and coordination of Head Delegate Taran Athwal, who studied both her LLB and MA at Kingston University. The team was trained and prepped by fellow postgraduate student David Newman.

In early 2017, a group of 14 Kingston University students flew to New York, each sitting on their own committee as delegates of Trinidad & Tobago - the twin-island state they had been assigned to represent for the duration of the conference. Each committee liaised with other Member States to draft resolutions following discussions and debates during formal and informal committee sessions. This was the second year that students from Kingston University participated. The students also had the privilege of visiting the Consulate General of Trinidad & Tobago where they sat with the Ambassador to discuss their committees and ask for guidance based on their Permanent Mission to the United Nations. It was truly enriching and an honour to be able to sit on a mission briefing with the Embassy and to sit in the actual United Nations Headquarters for the closing ceremony. The mission briefing was arranged by the Head Delegate and Second Head Delegate, Szimona Balogh."
