International Scholarships

This September we are offering a small number of scholarships for newly enrolled Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. The scholarships are worth £5,000 towards the tuition of the first year of study only.

Who can apply

We are looking for enthusiastic champions who can represent Kingston and support us with our recruitment and marketing work. You can apply for the International Scholarship if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are applying as an international student (classified as 'overseas fees')
  • Have received an offer to study an an Undergraduate or Postgraduate course at Kingston for September 2024
  • Are not currently enrolled on a Kingston University degree or foundation course

How to apply

You will need to write a personal statement and record a short video profile of yourself, to support your application. Applications are not on a first come, first served basis, so take your time.

Please note that our scholarships are very competitive and we receive many applications every year. If you are planning to come to Kingston this September and require a Student Visa, please proceed as soon as possible with further steps such as paying your deposit (postgraduate applicants only) in order to secure your CAS in time for your visa application.

Below, you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the International Scholarship:

How are the scholarships awarded?

The International Scholarships will be awarded on the following basis:

  • Your reasons for wanting to study at Kingston University
  • Your ability and enthusiasm to be a champion for Kingston and support us in our recruitment and marketing work

What documents do I need to submit?

The following supporting documents must be uploaded as part of your online International Scholarship application (we cannot accept supporting files by email). Incomplete applications (those missing one of the required items below) will not be processed.

Offer email

  • Offer email (conditional or unconditional) you received from Kingston
  • Saved as PDF or Word format

Personal statement (500 words maximum):

  • Why do you want to study at Kingston University?
  • How do you intend to use your experience and knowledge in the future?
  • Why are you a good champion for Kingston University?
  • What are your long-term goals?

Video introduction of yourself (1 minute max):

The video needs to be created by yourself and uploaded on YouTube, Box or any website where you can upload and share video files (please don't email us the video file as this is too large).

Please make sure the link is free to access and not password protected and does not require us to create an account to access the video.

It is meant to serve as an introduction of yourself and why you want to be a champion for Kingston University.

In the video you can answer the following:

  • Where are you from?
  • Why do you want to study at Kingston University?
  • How do you plan to be a champion for Kingston University?
  • Tell us about your hobbies and interests!
  • Be creative and express yourself!

We are not judging the quality of the filming so it can be done on a mobile phone or similar.

Please stick to the time limit, we will not consider your application if your video is longer than requested.

Social media accounts (optional)

Please share links to any of your social media profiles if they are public.

What is my Kingston Student ID number?

You will find your Kingston Student ID number on your course offer email. It is a seven-digit number starting with K (e.g. K1234567).

What happens after I apply?

You will receive a confirmation email after you submit your International Scholarship application (same day). Please check your email junk folder if you haven't received it.

If your application was incomplete, you will not be considered.

The Scholarships Committee makes the final decision on applications and does not correspond with applicants. The decision of the committee is final.

If you are successful, we will contact you by email. You will have to sign the contract and return it to us by the deadline. If you fail to reply on time, we will withdraw the scholarship. So please keep an eye on your emails!

Can I apply for an international scholarship and a loyalty bursary?

Yes, you will still be eligible to apply for one of our loyalty bursaries. You will find all necessary information and the application form on My Kingston (the University's intranet) after enrolment.

Can I apply for an international scholarship and a faculty scholarship?

Yes, you can apply for more than one Kingston University scholarship. If you are awarded more than one Kingston University scholarship, you will only be able to accept one Kingston University scholarship.

Can I apply for an international scholarship and an external scholarship?

Yes, if you are awarded a scholarship from Kingston University, this may be combined with an externally awarded scholarship as well.

How is the international scholarship discounted from my fees?

If you are paying by instalments, you will receive the £5,000 deduction on your final instalment.

If you are paying the full tuition fees in advance, you should deduct the £5,000 from your total fees (e.g. if your fees are £13,500 and you are awarded a £5,000 scholarship, you should pay £8,500).

What if I defer my admission or change my course?

The scholarship must be used for the course and intake you include in your International Scholarship application

If you change your course or defer, you will lose your International Scholarship.

What other scholarships are available?

A range of external and faculty-based scholarships are recognised by Kingston University and are available to view on the international scholarships section of our website.
