Kingston University's Dutch alumni reunite for an evening of networking

Posted Tuesday 12 August 2014

July was a busy month for all things Dutch. From 1994 to 2005, Kingston delivered its MBA programme in Holland, and one of its graduates suggested that a reunion be organised for all Dutch graduates of Kingston University.

Invitations were duly despatched, and on the evening of 3 July more than 35 Kingston alumni turned up at the Spaarnwoude resort hotel near Amsterdam (where the MBA used to be taught at weekends) to celebrate a long connection with Kingston University.

The University hosts were Graham Walker who taught on the MBA in Holland over the whole time, and Dr Laura Williams, a new colleague in Kingston Business School's Department of Management.

They were both already in Holland, taking a major part in an Erasmus Intensive Programme on International Human Resource Management in Nijmegen involving students from Kingston, Holland, Poland, Hungary, Italy and Spain.

Fortunately they were both able to sneak away for the evening and head to Amsterdam. The event was a great success, leading to calls from all involved for a repeat event next year. There was much exchanging of business cards and LinkedIn invitations, and possibilities were explored for guest lectures from what is now a group of experienced and senior professionals in their fields.

"It was a brilliant evening", Graham said, "and while on the one hand it was a lovely walk down memory lane, it was clear that there were many opportunities for future events and collaborations which can build on firmly established relationships and friendships. What was especially nice was to have Laura along with me to represent the upcoming generation of Kingston academics".

Met vriendelijke groeten to all.
