Another 'outstanding' Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)...with a little help from Brian Cox

Posted Wednesday 7 November 2012

Another success for Kingston KTPs! The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) has awarded an 'outstanding' grade to a recent project with The OTHER Media – an independent creative digital agency that has built websites for clients such as Jasper Conran and the V&A.

The rapid growth in smartphones and tablets has radically transformed the mobile computing market. Wanting to capitalise on this, but requiring a boost to their in-house expertise, The OTHER Media approached Kingston's School of Computing and Information Systems for support with developing high-end apps for use with Apple and Google products.

Mateusz Stawecki, a highly skilled Kingston University graduate with a BSc in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems & Mathematics was recruited to create and implement the new technologies and business models. During the two-year project, he designed many apps, including Brian Cox's 'Wonders of the Universe', which were all featured in the Sunday Times App List – the top 500 apps in the world'. Mateusz was supervised by both Maria Winnett and Graham Alsop at Kingston, and Chris Harris at The OTHER Media and following the KTP, he accepted a full-time position at The OTHER Media.

The KTP benefitted our academics and students through bringing real industry into the classroom. The Mobile Technology module has been updated to ensure the content and technologies are current. This has increased employability opportunities for our graduates as mobile app companies faced with a shortage of trained programmers seek to snap up mobile specialists.

We are delighted that Kingston academics and Enterprise Support have been recognised for their exceptional hard work and project management. This is our second 'outstanding' grade this year – an achievement only awarded to 5% of KTP projects.

There is currently funding available for KTP which covers up to 60% of the total project cost. If you are interested in finding out how you and your business contacts might get involved – please get in touch with one of our business development manager.
