We can't wait to welcome you to the campus at Kingston Hill for your first day! Please arrive in good time for a 9.30 start. Your first session will be with Banna Millar, the Course Lead, and your personal tutors. You will be introduced to key resources and materials that you will begin to familiarise yourself with and use throughout your time with us and you will meet key members of the team who are committed to working with you and supporting you throughout your time here.

From 11.30 onwards, you will have time as whole cohort and in your personal tutor groups. We will give you time to get to know each other and participate in team building and orienteering activities as well as work together to familiarise yourself with some of the key documentation you will need when on your school experience placements.

The day will begin at 9.30am again and your first session will be with Beth Lloyd, our computing tutor, who will introduce you to key apps IT resources that you will need whilst working here with us. At 11.30, a representative from the National Education Union (NEU) will deliver a session on E-safety and Protecting your Professional Identity. Your first lecture will take place in the afternoon from 2 to 4pm on Behaviour for Learning.

You will start again at 9.30 and the morning will be split into two sessions. The main overriding theme will be on Assessment, however the first session will focus on the logistics and formalities and the second session will be managing your mental health and wellbeing in relation to workload and assignments. Juliette Annal and Angie Edwards will run these sessions. The Freshers Fair will be held in the afternoon, giving you an opportunity to find out more about what else you can get involved in here at Kingston University. You will have another full day on campus, starting at 9.30am. Your induction sessions in the morning will be led by the library and academic services teams, giving you an introduction to what will be required of you when completing your academic writing. In the afternoon, David Gumbrell will deliver the Introduction to Professionalism session, where he will work with you to consider teacher presence, professional values and your professional identity. 

Another full day on campus, starting promptly at 9.30am, will bring your induction week to a close. You will participate in further Library and Learning services session, followed by an interactive session on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion from our EDI team, Kathy Bor and Christine Budhan-Mills. In the afternoon there will be a launch of our new partnership with the Driver Youth Trust, which underpins much of the course content. We look forward to welcoming you to this igniting your interest and enthusiasm in something we are all very passionate about.

Hopefully, by the end of this week, you will feel confident in your new surroundings and will have started to build up new friendships, giving you additional confidence as you embark on this new journey.

All students will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check in "Child Workforce" with Kingston University. The only exception is if you already have this in place and have subscribed to the Update Service. If this is the case, please complete the Update Service Form, giving us permission to check the current status of your DBS.

You need to activate your account with First Advantage and then complete your DBS application. Once you have submitted your application you will need to take your identification documents (originals) and proof of address to the Post Office for verification.

Don't worry. If you live abroad just organise a Certificate of Good Conduct for the time being from where you are living. However, do let us know when you arrive in the UK so we can give you guidance on what you need to do when applying for a DBS via First Advantage.

You should only complete this if you have a valid subscription with the Update Service as we need your permission to verify your current DBS status. Please note you can only subscribe to this service within 19 days of your DBS certificate issue date.

A Certificate of Good Conduct is required if you have lived outside the UK for more than three months in the last five years. This is in addition to you having DBS clearance. It usually comes in form of a letter or certificate from an overseas authority confirming your character and that you did not hold a criminal record when you spent time in that country.
