You'll be able to meet academics during the interactive session and get a taste of what it's like to study at Kingston. Whilst these sessions are only for our offer holders, guests are welcome to go on an accommodation tour, visit the Support Services Exhibition and attend our Supporters Q&A and drop in.

Architecture BA (Hons)

  • Registration: 11am

Course experience – Projections

Join our course team and your fellow offer holders as we take on the challenge of drawing architecturally at a scale of 1:1.

In groups, we'll draw an orthographic section of a notable architectural room at a life-sized scale to understand the relationship to one's own body and how we use space. We'll use measuring and masking tapes to map out and mark the section on the walls of the Architecture Department. We'll take a photo of the finished drawing featuring one of you to record how one may use the space.

What do you need to bring with you?

All materials will be provided but please be prepared to work in groups and bring a pencil or pen on the day!

Creative and Cultural Industries: Art Direction BA (Hons)

Join a lively discussion on the context of fashion.

We'll challenge you to think about what fashion is and the broader issues surrounding fashion. We'll then participate in a series of short workshops which will help put these questions into perspective and begin your journey as a competent fashion professional.

Communicating Fashion Stories

Storytelling is an important and creative method of fashion brand communication and can take many forms. Through this interactive session, you'll the opportunity to consider the role and purpose of storytelling in engaging audiences with a fashion brands products, values and brand proposition.

Filmaking BA (Hons)

Course experience – Scene and heard

Join the Filmmaking team and your fellow offer holders as we challenge you to watch a scene from a film and recreate it to explore how visual language was used to deploy meaning.

Fine Art BA (Hons)

Course experience – This is Fine Art!

Join a lively discussion and workshop.

We'll challenge you through a sequence of drawing exercises to form personal responses to a dynamic environment of moving images and kinetic objects. We'll also discuss key areas of what to expect on the Fine Art course with a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

Fine Art & Art History BA (Hons)

Course experience – What is Art History in the art school?

Look more deeply at how art theory and practice relate – we'll have a lively debate about Art History and Fine Art's engagement with theory and practice and together we'll learn what it means to study both these topics alongside each other.

Course experience – Put yourself in a designer's shoes

Join our course team, current students and your fellow offer holders for a discussion about the range of Graphic Design practice.

We'll challenge you to think and act like a designer in this lively chat prompted by a series of films and presentations from students developing work in: Social Design, Editorial Design, Typography, Photography, and Conceptual thinking.

Illustration Animation BA (Hons)

Course experience – What's your backstory?

Dare to think critically during this lively discussion on the process of drawing, character development and moving image techniques.

You and your future classmates will answer prompts about a given character, we'll then switch your answers around and you'll be challenged to design a character based on someone else's description. See how your interpretation compares to someone else's vision!

Interior Design BA (Hons)

Course experience – The KID Talks

Join our course team and your fellow offer holders for a series of presentations by current students, recent graduates and established alumni.

Together we'll review the entire student experience from study to practice and give you the opportunity to ask a range of individuals with varying experience any burning questions you may have.

Photography BA (Hons)

Course experience – Virtually Yours! With BA Photography.

We will share with you how the course is from the student perspective, viewing current students' coursework and photography, including an opportunity for a Q&A with students to ask those all-important questions that you need an answer for to cement your course choice! Staff are also on hand to showcase some alumni works and progress, and go into detail about the course and its structure.

We will also take you on an in-depth tour of the facilities and there may be an opportunity to also use our photo studio and the industry standard equipment, including high-end cameras and lights.

Product & Furniture Design BA (Hons)

Course experience – "Design Through Making"

Explore some of the different maker-based projects that have become the DNA of your course. We'll show you prototypes and processes we use including sand casting, ceramic slip casting and totally new manufacturing processes devised by our students!

Support Services Exhibition

The Support Services Exhibition is where you can pick up information about the University's main support services. This will include accommodation, admissions, careers and employability, disability and mental health, international, student funding and more.

You'll have the chance to speak to experienced staff at these stands and find out more about the University. It's a good idea to plan ahead and perhaps write down your questions in advance so you don't forget something important on the day.

Supporters Q&A

Parents, carers, and supporters are welcome to attend our Offer Holder Day, however please note that the course experience sessions are only for our offer holders. Whilst they're busy test driving their degree and making friends, join us at our Supporters Q&A where you can meet Faculty representatives.

Plan your journey to Kingston School of Art, Knights Park campus

Grange Road, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey KT1 2QJ

This campus is located close to the town centre and public transport hubs.

From 29 August 2023, Kingston University is within the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). For more information, please see the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames website.

Train

Trains run regularly from London Waterloo to Surbiton station (midweek 10 trains per hour, journey times 15-32 minutes) and to Kingston station (midweek four trains per hour, journey times 28-33 minutes). Surbiton and Kingston stations are both in Travelcard Zone 6. For further information and timetables, visit the National Rail Enquiries website.

From Surbiton station

  • Leave the railway station via the main exit
  • Cross the mini-roundabout to Claremont Road
  • Take the 71, 281, K2 or K3 bus towards Kingston
  • Get off at the 'Kingston Crown Court / Kingston College' stop
  • Cross Penrhyn Road on to Denmark Road
  • Turn left at the mini-roundabout, over the blue bridge
  • Turn right on to Grange Road, and the Kingston School of Art, Knights Park is then on the right

From Kingston station

  • Leave the railway station via the main exit
  • Cross the road diagonally on to Clarence Street (with the Rotunda to your left)
  • Keep to the left and walk past the fallen telephone boxes sculpture
  • Cross straight over the one-way system past Fairfield bus station along Wheatfield Way
  • Walk past Kingston Museum and at Kingston Library bear slightly left and walk down Fairfield West
  • Cross straight over at the traffic lights on to Knights Park
  • Kingston School of Art at Knights Park is on your left at the end of the road

Bus

The 71, 281, K2 and K3 buses run along nearby Penrhyn Road, and the Crown Court stop is a five-minute walk away from campus along Denmark Road. For further information, visit the Transport for London (TfL) website.

London buses no longer accept cash, but you can pay using an Oyster travelcard or with a contactless credit card. More information on fares and payments can be found on the TfL buses website.

We also run a free intersite bus service for students, staff and visitors. The KU2 links the campus with Surbiton train station, Penryhn Road and Clayhill halls of residence (nearest stop to campus is Fairfield South, just a few minutes walk away). The KU1 bus to Kingston Hill and Surbiton stops along Penryhn Road.

Car

We strongly recommend visitors use the excellent public transport links instead of driving to the Open Day.

The parking facilities at Knights Park, the Avionics Building and River House sites operate a pay-by-phone system known as 'Parkonomy'.

Limited on-site parking and Pay to park facilities are also available at the Penrhyn Road campus site which is less than 5 minutes walk from Knights Park. Alternative parking in Kingston Town Centre can also be found on the Parkopedia website – which shows current availability and costs.

Free car parking is available on all sites for blue badge holders.

All car park users agree to the University car parking terms and conditions.

Cycle parking facilities and showers are available at this site.

Plane

Heathrow and Gatwick airports international airports are the closest to Kingston, with coaches, buses and trains linking the airports with the town.

Free campus shuttle bus

A free University shuttle bus will run throughout the Open Day every 20 minutes. Look out for our friendly student ambassadors in the brightly coloured tops who can help direct you.

The shuttle buses call at the following campuses and stops:

  • Kingston town centre, on route to Penrhyn Road – Fairfield bus station (KT2 2PG). Stop B2 (near Kingston train station)
  • Penrhyn Road campus – closest bus stop to Knights Park campus. Bus stop outside the campus.
  • Kingston town centre, on route to Kingston Hill – Cromwell Road bus station (KT2 6RD). Stop A2 (around the corner from Kingston train station)
  • Kingston Hill campus – bus stop at the top of the steps that lead down to the Business School and Frank Lampl Building.
  • Roehampton Vale campus – bus stop, just outside the campus by the main road (A3). The bus returns to Kingston Hill, before continuing its circuit back into Kingston.

The journey between Kingston Hill and Penrhyn Road takes about 20 minutes (dependent on traffic).
