Commuter students

We have a huge commuting community at Kingston University, with over 50% of our students choosing to live at home or off-campus, and with excellent transport links in Kingston-upon-Thames it's a great option for lots of our students.

Here is our top advice for commuter students:

Student travel discount

Inside London

If you are a full-time student, and live in a London borough, you can apply for an 18+ Student Oyster photocard that enables you to get discounted travel on the Transport for London network (some part-time students may also be eligible). Please note: You must enrol before you can apply for the discount card.

Outside London

If you are travelling from outside of London, studying full-time and aged 16-25, you can get a 16-25 railcard that offers one-third off rail travel.

Kingston University bus

Our free intersite bus service connects you to all four of our campuses - and importantly to Kingston and Surbiton train stations. Plus, there's live updates on the Kingston University app so you don't have to worry about missing one!

Kingston University app

The Kingston University app will keep you up-to-date with everything university-related such as course timetables, email, library account, Canvas (our virtual learning environment), live bus updates, campus maps, and lots more.

Flexi-stay accommodation

The flexi-stay plan allows commuter students to book rooms in Halls of Residence on a flexible basis if you wish to stay near the University when completing coursework or if you are worried about getting to an exam on time!

You can find out more about flexi-stay accommodation or contact our team on +44 (0)20 8417 7311.

Microwaves on all campuses

If you prefer to bring your lunch from home, you can heat up food in one of our microwaves and enjoy your lunch in one of our comfortable common spaces.
