Update: 1 April 2022
We are delighted to share a further update on the Honorary Degree in Education Ceremony postponed from July 2020.
In advance of the Honorary Degree in Education Ceremony, Kingston University has agreed that we can now consider your honorary degree as conferred. This means that we will be sending your Honorary Degree Certificate to you in advance of the new ceremony date, and you should expect to receive this in the early summer. This includes alumni who have also booked to attend the ceremony.
The new ceremony date will be during w/c 16 January 2023. We will be able to confirm the exact date in the autumn.
This special ceremony is open to all Kingston alumni who completed a Certificate of Education (prior to 1979) at Gipsy Hill College or Kingston Polytechnic, following a special resolution passed by the Kingston University Senate, to award you an Honorary Degree in Education from Kingston University and to celebrate your career in teaching.
You will find all the latest information you need about our Education Honorary Degree graduation ceremony on this page.
We are working with the Graduations team to reschedule your Honorary Degree Ceremony for the w/c 16 January 2023. The exact date of the ceremony will be confirmed in the autumn.
Our apologies that this ceremony cannot be any earlier. This year we are ensuring that students from the last couple of years can graduate together after their different university experience during the pandemic. This means that we have over 14,000 graduations now planned this year.
If you have booked an honorary graduate free ticket and would still like to attend the ceremony, please do nothing and we will rollover your booking to the new ceremony date. We will contact you as soon as the new ceremony date is confirmed and if at this point you would like to cancel your booking please email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Your name will appear in our commemorative Honorary Degree ceremony programme and you will be sent a copy of the programme after the ceremony if you are not attending.
You are eligible for an Honorary Degree in Education from Kingston University if you left Gipsy Hill College or Kingston Polytechnic before 1979 with a Certificate in Education (Cert Ed).
We reserve the right to check and verify bookings to the ceremony and applications for receiving Honorary Degree certificates from Kingston University. At the point of booking, or shortly afterwards, we may ask for evidence of your original Certificate in Education award or further evidence of attendance.
We know that over time, documents will be misplaced; however, Kingston University is not able to supply replacements or copies of original documents and certificates to alumni who achieved awards prior to 1992.
Due to the exceptional nature of the past two years, we are able to award Honorary Degree certificates posthumously from 1st January 2020.
Please enter your name on the online booking form as you would like it to appear on your certificate. So, if you have changed your name since studying at Gipsy Hill, just enter the name you prefer to be on your certificate. We will accept versions that acknowledge marital name changes, for example, you could choose to have your name appear in the following ways:
Please note we will not include titles on your certificate (Mr, Mrs, Ms or others).
Graduates and guests should be aware that the Conferment of Honorary Degree ceremony will be regarded as a public event. Your name will be published in the commemorative Honorary Degree programme. The names printed in the programme will be as accurate as possible at the time of going to print.

Graduations are friendly rather than formal but, as it's a special occasion, most people - including guests - go smartly dressed. We hope that all honorary graduands will want to wear formal ‘academic dress' (hat, hood and gown) for the occasion. However, this is not compulsory.
The Graduate Gowning Company supplies all Kingston University's academic dress. There will be a charge of approximately £45 for the hire of your full outfit (hat, hood and gown). We will send you full details in advance of the ceremony.
We will send you a 'Planning Your Day' guide in advance of the ceremony with details about official photography. Your guests can also take cameras and camcorders in the Rose Theatre foyers and the auditorium and take pictures during the ceremony.
Please note graduates and guests who attend Kingston University graduation ceremonies give their consent to the recording and transmission of their images (still and moving) for Kingston University publicity purposes.
